Underground Utility Locating for Soil Boring - Amelia, Louisiana

GPRS was contacted by an environmental company to mobilize to locate underground utilities near an offshore drilling platform storage yard near Morgan City, Louisiana. The company had multiple soil boring locations and were very concerned about striking underground utilities, such as water lines, sewer lines, telecommunication lines and power lines. Many companies require private utility locating prior to any digging or drilling. This is very important, not only for the safety of the crew, but also due to the damage and costs associated with damaging underground utilities. For this reason, they called Ground Penetrating Radar Systems.

GPRS, Inc. is often called to mobilize to a project to locate underground utilities. Ground penetrating radar is an extremely accurate and effective way of locating the impediments in the ground. GPRS has found its accuracy to be +/- 6” when marking the center of the pipe and +/-10% when determine the depth of the object. The process is normally very quick and field markings are placed in real time.

With this in mind, GPRS completed the utility locating process in southern Louisiana, marking all utilities discovered and explaining the findings to on-site representative. The environmental company was then able to continue with its drilling schedule with more confidence and an understanding of what hazards lay in their path. On site we were able to scan all 20 locations in only a few hours
